Day 6 – Using die cuts to create color blocks
What a lot of fun the past two weeks have been! I’ve been participating in the Spring Online Card Camp sponsored by Jennifer McGuire and Kristina Werner. Each day, there have been two new video lessons taught by some of the best stampers and crafters in the business. During week one, we learned tons of inking techniques; for week two, the focus was die cutting.
This card was created for Day 6 – Color Blocking using die cuts. Our instructors, Keisha Charles and Lea Lawson taught us various techniques for creating color blocks using dies.
For my card, I decided to create color blocks using a plaid background die by Concord & 9th. I used it to cut out the pattern and then filled in the negative spaces with different colors. In the lesson, our instructor used ink to create her colors in the negative space. However, I had some beautiful panels I created using some shimmer inks a week ago and thought they would be perfect to use here.
Before I die cut the panels, I ran them through my die cut machine using a PinkFresh Studio cover plate, Intricate Stitched Ovals. It gave my cardstock some subtle texture and really brought out the shine of the shimmer inks.
Isn’t the result gorgeous!? I finished off the card with a foiled sentiment from You Are Amazing by Poppystamps and some die cut flowers from Spellbinders. I’ve very pleased with the results.
Now, on to Day 7! See you later, and happy stamping!
